‘Inside Out’, Community Empowerment Services
Young Adult, ‘Inside Out’, Community Empowerment Services
Bringing Hope Charity and AVision for Empowerment acknowledges that, we are in unprecedented times. In recent weeks, COVID-19 has temporarily changed how we all live our lives and how individuals and families are supported by statutory, faith, community and voluntary sector organisations. The real challenges associated with COVID -19, has led to illness, self-isolation, staying at home and emotional challenges for many.
Whilst our workers are competent and skilled, until we can re-establish, safe face-to-face contacts, we have had to consider alternative ways to connect or engage with service users and those that could benefit from our services. This has included phone communication/ support, skype and zoom meetings as well as training sessions.
Our mission is to engage and support young people and their families, who are involved or at risk of involvement in activities, lifestyle choices and behaviours, that causes harm to themselves, others or local communities. This may include criminality, serious violence, use of weapons and negative group affiliations.
We seek to preserve and enhance life, through multidimensional methods and approaches and to work in partnership with Public Health and other agencies to provide a coordinated response to cases that are referred to us.
Considering the above context, we are very mindful that, successful resettlement and rehabilitation support, requires clear aims and approaches that, effectively engages individuals and families, to address issues and concerns, associated with establishing crime-free and productive lives. It is based on this premise, Bringing Hope Charity and AVision for Empowerment, with over 25 years’ experience of delivering training and empowerment support in prisons and communities, now offers, a unique programme, to support referred individuals and families, in the rehabilitation and resettlement processes. We acknowledge that, for some, this may be daunting, and therefore, our experienced staff team will offer sensitive and relevant advice and support.
Holistic & family orientated
We believe desistance and rehabilitation can be enhanced, when family relationships are strong, and support is forthcoming. Importantly, our approaches seek to address an individual’s needs, concerns challenges and interests within a holistic framework (exploring wellbeing: physical, emotional, mental, moral, ethical, social and community). In so doing, we should be able to establish how these areas are impacted or influenced towards living crime-free.
Referrals and Service
Referrals will come from several sources, which will include: Prisons, probation service, self-referrals, community or voluntary sector organisations and concerned family members.
Each person we engage will have an initial assessment regarding their training, resettlement and personal support needs. This will include input from probation officers, offender supervisors and resettlement personnel, where appropriate. We will deliver the programme through, empowerment training (accredited), one-to-ones, group work, counselling and self-reflections, through journals and conversations.
These activities will seek to:
• Support a young adult to take stock and reflect
• Address the causal factors at the root of their negative attitudes and behaviour.
• Provide counselling for trauma-associated support.
• Provide specific preparation for those re-entering the community.
• Help participants to develop a personal journey plan regarding their rehabilitation and resettlement needs.
• Prepare them to engage in other programme activities addressing their attitudes, thinking and behaviours.
• Address issues and challenges associated with family relationships
• Support with issues relating to sustainable accommodation, employment, health, and wellbeing and money management.
• Support young adult to make positive lifestyle choices.
We will ensure that, all participants receiving a service are involved in self- reflection, relating to their progress in the following areas:
