Organisation Profile: The Lighthouse Group

Award winning social enterprise, The Lighthouse Group (TLG) in partnership with The Salvation Army, have launched a new centre in the heart of Aston in Birmingham that provides alternative education for disaffected young people.

The new TLG Centre will provide a range of positive activities to help young people from across the City who have been excluded from school or who are at risk of exclusion, to re-engage in learning and provide extra support during and beyond school hours. By delivering unique educational programmes to some of the hardest to reach young people, the Centre's aim is to tackle the issues that underpin behavioural difficulties and develop learning skills that lead to opportunities, which can bring a brighter future.

TLG is a registered charity with a proven track record of providing educational services that deal with the issues that underpin educational failure. With their National Support Centre based in Bradford, the Aston TLG centre is the first to be launched outside of Yorkshire and there are other partnership centres to be opened in London and Manchester later in the year.

Mike Royal, TLG’s National Director says of the new development: “The plans for our New Birmingham Centre are really exciting. The partnership with the Salvation Army allows extra support during and beyond school hours and to intervene before young people are excluded from school and sucked into gang culture and other related issues. The new centre will provide fantastic resources for the staff of TLG and our partners to help enable transformation of the lives of disaffected young people from across the city.”
